WHAT SHOULD YOU EXPECT FROM A DRIVING LESSON WITH THE DRIVING SCHOOL

Everyone who learns to drive will learn in a different way, this means no two lessons are ever the same.  However, every lesson will follow the same basic structure, on this page I will talk you through the basic structure of any lesson so that you know what to expect when you come for your first driving lesson with The Driving School, there is also an IMAGE GALLERY to accompany this page.

Before The Lesson:  With in reason, I will arrange to pick you up from wherever is convenient to you, this could be from home, work, school, college, etc.  Just let me know and I’ll be there.

At The Beginning Of The Lesson:  We will start with a quick re-cap on the previous lesson with the use of questions and answers, this is to ensure that you can still remember what has been covered, there’s no point in moving on to a new topic if there’s still problems in previously covered areas. Presuming there are no problems to re-visit I will then set the aims and objectives for the lesson, these will include what areas are to be covered in the lesson and what you should accomplish by the end of the lesson.

The Briefing:  The lesson briefing will then be given, this is where we introduce the new topic in detail, to help with this I will again use question and answer techniques, as an additional aid I will display my lesson briefing on a Tablet DVD player, as far as I am aware I am the only driving instructor in Lincoln carrying out lesson briefings in this way.  Using the Tablet DVD player enables me to personalise my briefings and it displays them in greater detail and is far clearer than using wipe away pens on laminated boards.  I will answer all questions you have and go over anything that you have not understood.

The Main Body Of The Lesson:  You will then drive to a location suitable to practice the new topic, any problems on route will be dealt with straight away, again there is no point in moving on if there are still problems in other areas that need to be addressed first.  I will give you full instruction at first,  talking you through everything as you go, but as you gain confidence and ability I will then pass more of the responsibility and decisions over to you, I will be ready to help you at any time you need it.

At The End Of The Lesson:  Using question and answer techniques we will go over what has been learnt in the lesson so that I can be sure you have understood what has been covered.  I will then fill out your Progress Card so that you can keep a record of how well you are doing, this will also help you understand the level that you are at and how far you have to go to get to test standard.  We will arrange the next lesson and briefly discuss what is to be covered in that lesson so that you can prepare for it.

So there’s the basic structure of any driving lesson, I hope it’s helped you understand the learning process and hopefully put your mind a bit more at ease about starting to learn to drive.
